Date: 2001-09-25 11:30 am (UTC)I don't believe 1984 will ever happen in any literal sense, because of the dynamic between politicians and consituents in American government. Not that I believe that politicians always act in the best interest of their constituents; but keep in mind before politicians enter politics, they're ordinary citizens. And after they leave politics, they become ordinary citizens again. Therefore, it's not in their own best interests to oppress ordinary citizens.
