While eating my monday red beans & rice I turned on the tv and caught an episode of "Las Vegas". One of the two intertwined plots was set in New Orleans-- the alternative reality New Orleans which exists somewhere in Hollywood, where the New Orleanians speak with Cajun accents.... There were a couple of short exterior shots that clearly were shot here, and other of some other city on a river that clearly wasn't.

If someone who didn't know much about New Orleans would watch the show, at the end of it they'd know even less.

Well anyway... Happy Mardi Gras from the Real New Orleans.

Hollywood has been butchering Southern accents for decades now.

There is a scene in "Leningrad Cowboys Go America" that takes place in New Orleans and/or Louisiana. I can spoil it for you, or I can just send you the VHS tape in the mail.

Unless it's a particularly good film I need to see on it's own merits, go ahead and tell me.

Well, you've heard about it on ARK. It's about a Russian band who goes to America, and travels across the country while slowly becoming a rock and roll band.

It's a Finnish film, but it's mostly in English.

Who's behind you, Froggy?
She is beauteous.
Do I detect a certain frogness about her?

Interesting you sensed something froggy about the gal who happens to be behind me in the pic... I dated her back in '98. More photos of Ms. L. at Carnival that year at my geocities site (http://www.geocities.com/infrogmation/Wknd98.html).

...or perhaps you'd already seen that site and recognized her from there?

haven't looked at your site lately...
it was her happy grin and the pattern of her blouse
(which is just blurry enough that I'm not certain they are frogs).

Hoppy Mardi Gras to you!

Hollywood just doesn't get it right...they wouldn't know a New Orleans accent if it jumped up and bit 'em.

Strangely enough, even though I grew up here, I don't have the accent...I worked consciously to lose it, hence sounding like the "generic news anchor".

Nice pic, your Frogness...but then, you're cute anyway. :)

[livejournal.com profile] valiant_200 and I will be in the city this weekend. We are staying at the Springhill Suites on St. Joseph, so we don't have to drive back to Mississippi every evening. We'll be there until early Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, he has to work on Shrove Tuesday. :-(

Hopefully, we will see you parading around the Quarter this weekend, Sir Frogalopolous!

We were disappointed not to see you in Krewe de Vieux, but we understood if you were under the weather. It was truly cold that evening!
