Thanks for the good wishes, everyone.

As predicted, the hurricane force part of the storm went to the west of New Orleans. My neighborhood is fine; the power even stayed on except for a couple of short flickers and once for about 5 minutes.

I've had an old friend, Ms B. the artist, staying at my place; she's a former New Orleanian now living in Germany who decided to take the long way back from a museum exhibition in Japan in order to visit her old stomping grounds here.

Sitting out a hurricane with an artist can result in conversations like this:

TV Newscaster: As you can see from this satelite image, this is a classic hurricane.

Bev: Have we ever been hit by a Neo-Classic hurricane? Or maybe a Manerist hurricane?

Froggy: You can tell it's a Baroque hurricane if there are lots of chubby babies flying around.

B: What about a Surrealist hurricane?

F: Instead of water, it rains bicycle parts.

B: And when it hits moble-homes, it turns them into fish.

Hah!
