Allons a Lafayette

Hi from Louisiana, "The Disaster State".
We left Austin this morning and headed East. Before Beaumont the dammage from Rita was very evident along I-10, continuing through Lake Charles, LA. Buildings with walls &/or roofs off, a few collapsed piles of rubble, many many tattered billboards, some highway signs twisted, bent, or blown away.
Things look worst right around the LA/Tex border. The Louisiana Welcome Station was closed, with bits of roof missing.
We're having a late lunch in Lafayette, which is relatively unscathed, being west of Katrina and east of Rita. We're at Bisbano's Pizza,
mshollie's old hangout from a quarter century ago when she was a freshgal at University of Louisiana Lafayette. Back then they didn't have wireless internet access here.
Ah, our food has arrived. Eat, then on to Baton Rouge.

Date: 2005-10-05 12:50 am (UTC)We made it to my sister's place in Baton Rouge. I don't think she's terribly happy about having us here, but we're being minimally invasive. I'm also an honorary LSU Tiger by virtue of our Miss Crescent City New Orleans, Amanda...and my dad, who is a Tiger alum.
I don't have any Ragin' Cajun stuff any more...maybe I should rectify that next time I pass through Lafayette.
