In case any of you still had any doubts that the corrupt Republican administration has no sense of shame, on Fox News an administration official just announced that to show they care, in response to Hurricane Katrina they are lowering the clean air standards for fuels.

More sulpher emissions. Yeah, that's what folks along the coast are in despirate need of.

How long have they been waiting for an excuse to pull that one?

Somehow I keep being shocked anew how damn slimy these SOBs are.

Is that for the affected area, or just nationwide so that they can get gas prices down?

Pollution is bad, but a doubling of gas prices may be worse.

Not to argue here in Froggy's journal, but doubling of gas prices may be exactly what this country needs. If average joe citizen is hit hard in the wallet due to an increase of fuel prices, perhaps they'll join forces with those of us preaching for alternative fuels, higher fuel effecient standards for automakers, and mass transportation. With that said, these prices are certainly kicking my wallet's ass!

Well, I agree on the point that high gas prices have the benefit of making alternative fuels more attractive.

But, I'm not convinced that gas going from $2.50 to $4 in a week wouldn't have side effects that are a bit worse.

On the other hand, gas prices creeping up to $4 over three years probably wouldn't allow the necessary sense of urgency.

CNN reported that, too, but I notice they didn't gloat about it like Fox apparently did. Hoo boy, what a great idea.

I'm with Kali, I hope high gas prices will wake up people who need a kick in the ass. Instead, it will probably create economic collapse, as prices for everything skyrocket because transporting it to stores will cost so much. That'll be fun.

European gas prices are significantly higher than US ones, yet we are none the wiser, unfortunately.
