Hi from Houston.

Took 6 hours to go the first hundred miles.

Just heard someone who waited til Tues evening took 11 hours (driving all night) to get as far as Baton Rouge.

That's what happens when you evacuate a million people.

And on the positive side: Not only won't I get blown away here, I just had some good Tex-Mex for lunch. Mmmm.

I don't recall any honest news sources ever saying that New Orleans was in danger. We on the Mississippi Gulf Coast were more likely to be in the line of fire and we never even got a mention. Let this be a lesson to all - cable news LIES!!!

NOLA threat

Hm, National Weather Service had NOLA as within the possible hit range when I headed out. I remember Pascagoula specifically mentioned as a possible ground zero in one estimate.

With the problems evacuating this city (basically an island with linked by a few bridges and causeways), when a category 4 or 5 threatens I'd rather get out early without be sure it's necessary than being one of those who spend 24 hours in bumper-to-bumper and still don't get out of range of the storm.
