I picked up the cd which [livejournal.com profile] mshollie burned for me of Carnival pix I took with the digital camera she kindly loaned me. Here's the first batch from this.

"A Mardi Gras Fan"

On the whole, I find the results a bit disappointing compared to film, but with all the sights at Mardi Gras its hard not to get at least a few good pix. I enjoyed the ease of use, not having to keep reloading the camera, no developing etc, but there were lots of times where I knew I would have gotten a good pic with a cheap 35 mm and wound up with grainy junk. It was an interesting experiment.

Say, is that celebrity Anna Nicole on the left?

This batch is all from c. 8:30 - 10:30 am Mardi Gras morning down in the Bywater and Fabourg Marigny neighborhoods -- fun loving locals, with no tourists evident.

Society of Saint Anne Maskers

The Stompers start jamming, with the Ducks of Dixieland in the background

An old time sight: Accordian player and monkey

"Send Bush To Mars" ... or if that's too expensive, back to Texas will do.

Digital photography is a completely different realm from analog (film) photography. For one thing, the shutters on each camera are completely different. You have to wait about a fraction of a second after you snap the image before you can take another one. You also need A LOT of light that film cameras don't necessarily require.

Still, though, I also enjoy the ease of not having to replace film and just being able to snap at will.

The only thing is having to offload them into my 'puter after all is said and done. My laptop is unable to do that (a P166 with no USB port), so I have to offload everything with my desktop setup.
