infrogmationIts been a beautiful day here in District A New Orleans. The sun is shining. Spring is in the air. Plum Street snowballs opened up for the season -- yum! And best of all, Susan Guidry won the City Council race. With 62% of the vote!
Local politics pundit Clancy DuBois estimates Batt outspent Guidry about 2 to 1. [edit: Times-Picayune says Batt outspent Guidry FOUR TO ONE! ] Batt had more signs, more commercials, and the best endorsements money could buy.
I'm getting my faith in humanity restored by... New Orleans voters?! Well, all right then!
I would have been happy with Guidry squeeking in with 50% + 1 votes. But Guidry didn't just eek out a win, she CLOBBERED Batt. I suspect this may be a bigger shock to some of the old "business as usual" clique than anything in last month's general election.
