H & I made a day trip to Vicksburg. It was raining steadily from reminants of Gustav, but mostly not severely, and we thought Vicksburg in the rain was preferable to being cooped up all day here, comfoy though our room is.

The Welcome Center had a map with a nice driving tour, just the thing to do in the rain. We also got some good eats-- after a few days in Port Gibson, seeing menus with such items as chicken parmesan and baked potatos seemed like a return to the luxuries of high civilization.

Old train station building

MLK, Malcom X, Bobby Kennedy... and I don't recognize who the last one is supposed to be

Um.... Pink gorrilla? And "Support Our Troops" with a Confederate Battle Flag... isn't it a bit, uh, too late, mebe?

It finally stopped raining just as we were about to head back.

Shame we couldn't stick around for the chicken and veal parmesan. Anyway, the toasted ravioli was good.

Hah. We're actually holed up about a block from that fountain, in the 1400 block of Washington street.

Damn, we coulda schedualed lunch or a beer.

I can reccomend the "Hawiian chicken" at Rusty's, 901 Washington.

Plan at present is we're gonna try to head back to NOLA Friday morning.

Amazing. We drove by Rusty's about 7 and gave it a pass because it looked too crowded. Ate at the Italian place about 5 blocks further up.

Lunch would have been cool. There are a number of New Orleans people that I never see in New Orleans. Shannon Powell, for instance. The last time I saw him was at the airport. The time before that, in Seattle.

Did you know Charlie Miller lived in Vicksburg for awhile after Katrina.
