[livejournal.com profile] mshollie and I are planning to visit New England in June, probably flying into Providence, staying in Fall River Mass (where Hollie has some business) and since were in the area we hope to spend a couple days in Boston before flying out from there.

We've never been those places. Reccomendations?

I fully concur. Anybody who thinks the Medicare prescription drug benefit plan was well designed would feel right at home negotiating every interaction at every intersection with Massachusetts idiot drivers while following the inscrutable signage through the rotaries and underpasses of Cambridge and Arlington.

DO NOT DRIVE IN BOSTON

Thanks for both recomendations.

I was hoping to avoid driving on this trip at all, but it looks like mass transit isn't up to our needs in the Fall River/Providence area. So we're planning to rent a car in Providence, do the S.E. Mass stuff, and return the car in Providence before taking the train from there to Boston.

If there's anything in the MIT Museum collection you might be interested in (we do have some old radios, for instance), send me a note and I'll set you up a research appointment. Or I'd be happy to give you a campus tour.

I have wanted for some time to set up an arkple at the Harvard medical museum with Phineas Gage's skull, and there's always the EtherDome, too.

The Public Gardens should be quite nice that time of year, and if it's the right week, there'll be films and Shakespeare on the Common.

Only please to call it "research"

Oooh, thanks for the offers! I'm sure I could think of things I'd quite enjoy spending time researching, but as this is our first visit to Boston/Cambridge area, a more generalized sampler platter might be better for this short visit.

If it would be way nifty if, your scheduals & stuff permitting, you could show us around MIT (or whatever in the area you think is look at worthy) sometime on the 25, 26, or 27th of June.

We don't have much on any "must see" list other than the Museum of Fine Arts, the Science Museum, and maybe Harvard Square. And Trader Joe's?
