Yesterday Ms. H and I had lunch at Gordon Biersch Brewpub on Poydras Street. Neither of us had been there, and Hollie had been disappointed about A1A Brewpub in St. Augustine being under renovation during our recent visit to that city. We found the food and beer sampler very satisfactory. The CBD is certainly quite a contrast to the near-abandoned atmosphere of a year ago. We also did a quick walk around the Casino across the street. I'd not been in it since right after it opened. I think the 10 minutes walking the circuit in Harrah's will do me for Casino visits for another decade, unless they add some interesting art I wish to see. I think I'd find prolonged exposure to the noise of scores of slot machines highly annoying. Hollie says I wouldn't like Vegas.

I'm perhaps a bit behind the curve on this one, but locals should check out The U2/Green Day video for The Saints are Coming for a bit of creative alternative history of New Orleans K-Day +1.

Happy Halloween, all!

Scary stuff, kids!

how was the brewpub? Chad and I may want to check it out on Poydras. How close is that to the Drury inn?

I don't know where Drury Inn is. The New Orleans Gordon Biersch (http://www.gordonbiersch.com/) is in the 200 block of Poydras at Fulton, across from the Casino.

The brewpub is quite nice in appearance, food, and of course beer. All the ones in the sampler were good, though I particularly liked their hefewisen.

The weather is expected to cool off by the time you get here.

I hate to tell you, there was the first shooting in the Upper Quarter (http://www.nola.com/newsflash/louisiana/index.ssf?/base/news-28/1162306750235140.xml&storylist=louisiana) -- apparently this was after a Gangster Rap concert at House of Blues, and was at a bar across Decatur from HOB after it let out after midnight. I don't know what this means for the area, but in any case not good news.

BTW, I noticed Crescent City Brewpub on Decatur has reopened as well. I tried them years ago and wasn't too impressed, but maybe worth checking how they're doing now.

Arrgh-that's not good news about the shooting. Oh why do those idiots have to return???

*sigh*

I asked Chad about Gordon Biersch but he's not a fan of the brewpub.. *shrugs*
He didn't care for CC brewpub as well sorry to say.
Perhaps we can have friends gather at a coffee shop or Cooter Brown's?
Gads, will have to find a spot on that busy busy weekend.. :)

Not sure how close it is to Drury Inn, but it's near the Convention Center. The brewpub is nice; it's a chain, mostly on the West Coast (I've seen the one in San Diego often but have never eaten there). It isn't A1A Ale Works, but it'll do.

And, froggy, you wouldn't like Vegas because the constant slot machine noises are everywhere. I just tend to tune them out and concentrate on the blackjack tables. Some of the casino/hotels do have art museums, though. I'm serious.
