Date: 2006-10-25 03:00 pm (UTC)The overall picture is actually not that different from before the storm, in that there are areas where one is quite safe, others that one should be cautious about, and others that are best avoided. The geography, however, has changed.
There are some serious problems, but mostly confined to certainn limited areas-- Central City being the worst, most of the violence apparently relating to returning drug fighting for turf.
Probably most of where you'd like to visit is safe-- the upper half of Uptown, the Quarter, etc. Let me know where you'd like to go and I'll check about areas in advance if you'd like. Have you been back since the great flood?
I just got back from 5 weeks out of town so I'm not back in touch with as many details as I could be yet. There was a rash of robberies in Marigny/Bywater area last month then a local shot one of the perps dead in self defence-- I'll have to check if things in that area have gotten better again.
How long are you planning to be in town? Maybe we can get some of the old gang together over coffee or beer?

Date: 2006-10-28 03:13 pm (UTC)I will be in NOLA the weekend of November 16-20 for a gathring of online friends. Maybe we can get some people at Cooter Browns or the Bulldog sometime that weekend.
I'll have to check that out with Chad though..
That Thursday night we are gathering at Pat O Brien's for the traditional hurricane party (the drink not the storm) so you are welcome to join us.
Or we can meet at some point that weekend..*shrugs*
