I'm schedualed to have my left (other) eye operated on Wednesday. Unlike the right eye, I havn't noticed a problem with the cataract in that eye, though the doc says its 2.something and prime target for removal-- doctors used to wait til cataracts got somewhat worse and "hardened", but now they say they it's safer and better to remove them before they get that bad.

My situation after the procedures are said and done will curiously be somewhat the reverse of what I've been used to since I was little-- I'll need glasses for near vision, not far.

It looks like I'll be losing a "minor super-power": My extreme myopia enabled me to see things at near microscopic detail without my glasses if held right in front of my eyes.

I may have to rely on [livejournal.com profile] mshollie for some things for a couple of days after the second operation until I get my near-distance glasses. However as an experiment I'm writing and posting this not with my left eye but with my right-- wearing a pair of Walgreens + 350 magnifying glasses and my left eye covered. Awkward but works.
