Nutria on a Streetcar!
Aug. 19th, 2006 11:00 pmSo, I saw "Snakes on a Plane". I would have skipped it on my own, but some of the New Orleans Worst Film Festival veterans wanted get together to see it. Yeah, it pretty much takes 100+ years of silly B movie cliches and jams them into one movie. Vyoma's review IMO hits the mark. I'm not quite as enthusiastic as Vyoma about it, but if you're in the mood a for cheesy leave-your-brain-in-neutral flicker show to not take seriously with some friends... hey, two snakes up.

Date: 2006-08-20 05:29 am (UTC)Understand that this was largely an excuse for a reunion of the "New Orleans Worst Film Festival" folks; we used to have a yearly event of showing real stinkers ("Killer Shrews" and the like) as a charity fundraiser. We amuse eachother making wisecracks throughout. It sufficed for that-- though for sections we atypically just watched and laughed.
Hm. Generally the interesting or amusing BAD films are by the ilk of Ed Wood who have some inexplicable inability to understand what their doing wrong. Attempts to make something deliberately amusingly bad like "Attack of the Killer Tomatos" instead wind up as generally boring trash. "Snakes on a Plane" may just be the first actual successfull attempt in this direction. A different tack was taken at achiving this goal: serious acting and editing talent at the service of a concept that is leagues past stupid, and knows it.
And every damn cliche you can think of jammed in like sardines. Even after the apparent end of the film a snake jumps out at the audience like the pistol shot in "The Great Train Robbery"!
