I got the July 10th New Yorker in the mail today -- first magazine not recieved after its publication date. Much improved from when they often arrived (when they did at all) 2 months old.

Way to go, US Postal Service!

A good thing, yes, but I'm still disgusted at the slowness of putting the New Orleans mail back on its' feet. Postal Service is a federal institution- that should have been back up to speed right away. It just shows the lack of initiative on the part of the Feds to let a whole regional branch of their system lie fallow like that.

I agree completely.
If they didn't have enough sorters or carriers here, they presumably could have brought some in from elsewhere.

FedEx was getting their job done here back in October. It has taken US Postal "Service" til now to get something close to Pre-K service (and that's here in one of the first sections of town to return to running, I suspect things are still much worse in NO East etc).

At least the USPS has the excuse of Katrina for there slowness. Here in LA (that's Los Angeles for you New Orleans folks) it takes two weeks for a letter to travel across town.
