Just a couple totally off topic things, one being- your personal journal seems to only show up on my page in a really spotty fashion- why is that, go figure. Axe FEMA, hell, I don't know.
2. Thank you so much for the Stompers on Mardi Gras- you were busy, as was I, so we didn't intersect. But thank you, a million times. I'll be there soon, and we ill intersect in the off season, I promise.
3. Are you aware that there are oil deposits stretching throuh Lower 9 and the East, extending down, and becoming richer through Arabi, Chalmette, and all through St. Bernard? My source on this is the geology department at UNO. Has anybody else discussed it, at all, that you know of? Do you know about it, or does anyone you know seem to know? I, for one, am very concerned about what this could mean.
Apparently, it isn't news- it was always known, during the Gulf Coast oil boom, that some of the richest deposits lie under the city.

Unrelated...

Dear Mr. Radio Show,

I have a couple questions for you which I probably should have asked before now. ;-)

It isn't perfect, but is a 2.5 mil stylus well-enough suited for early 78's? I bought a Shure M78S, which is about the only cartridge I can afford right now. As I look around, I see there are wider styli/cartridges that would have been better, but many or most of those cost more than the turntable itself. Would 2.5 mil put an unusual amount of wear/stress on acoustic records? A dozen needles to play every different size of 78 RPM record groove isn't economical for me right now. (And it hadn't even occurred to me because currently I play all of my 78's with the same stylus on a 1960's classroom record player -- I ignorantly assumed one 78 stylus was more or less the same size as another.)

In short, I'm hoping you'll tell me that 2.5 mil is safe enough to play 78's from various eras until I can afford better.

Thank you for your time, and please break the bad news to me gently.

Sincerely,
Mr. Should-Have-Just-Stuck-With-What-He-Had

My new turntable is driving me nuts, and 78's weren't even the point of having the turntable... just thought being able to play them on it might be nice since it has that speed!
