A musician friend recently made some recordings at the Edison Labs, using the technology of 110 years ago.

A purely mechanical recording of an entirely electronic instrument. No. Just no.

The electric piano. Yes, that's inauthentic.

I've never particularly liked electric pianos... though they have the advantage of portability, and you can know that yours will be in tune and have all the keys working. In my part of the country anyway bars and smaller music venues frequently have ancient pianos that havn't had proper maintaince since before the Great Depression. If I had a Bill Gates sized fortune, one of my minor philanthopies would be to fund traveling piano tuners/repairers... :-)

BTW, my friend is the fellow shown conducting the band in the photos. He is also an excellent trombone player.
