At present our travel plans are thus:

Despite one friend of a friend making the I-10/I-12 route without much problem, consensus (including from Ms. Hollie's sister in the Baton Rouge area) is to avoid the southern route, as many problems and probably take longer.

So tomorrow we plan to leave Jacksonville, then spend 2 nights & one day visiting two friends in the Fort Walton Beach/ Navarre Beach area of the Florida panhandle.

Then westward-- at Mobile probably head north off I-10. US-98 to near Hattiesburg then US 49 TO Jackson, MS looks most direct, but that area was hard hit, so US-45 UP TO Meridian would be plan B, a little longer but perhaps less problems? Anyone have any info/feedback?

The I-20 West. We have crash space in Monroe (and a kind plan B offer in Shreveport) lined up. Then west of Shreveport, US-79 down to I-35 and in to Austin.

latest highway updates and a safe route..

uhh.. nosey meeko here.. do you or [livejournal.com profile] mshollie or local friend have AAA? If you still have AAA membership they would have all the latest info regarding safe travel routes and can help you plan accordingly for travel delays etc.. It's included in your membership so other than the wait sitting around the local office there they can provide you will all the maps and triptics or something like that.. I realize this isn't a vacation...but it IS something the AAA office can do for you as part of your membership, as well roadside assistance. =)

again sorry for being nosey.. *hugs & bests wishes to you both*

pamela =)

Thanks for the info.

I hadn't heard Walter was back in the city?!?

I'm in regular touch with a friend who worked with Dave Dahlia; I'll ask about him next time I talk with her.
