From the 1780s? It would probably already be plaqued and listed. Pre-Louisiana Purchase stuff outside of the Quarter seems to succeed in getting some attention.
A couple decades later, probably not. And massive historical connections seems to count for very little.
Note that the home of one of the most important and influential musicians of the 20th century (http://infrogmation.livejournal.com/212926.html) in the 7th Ward was demolished in 2010.
