So, J. D. Vance is going to be King of America next year, I guess.

Election night

Election night, while having some hope for a Kamala landslide, we thought it much more likely that it would be like 4 years ago, a long process without a clear winner on the first day. So we tried to avoid stress by not watching the returns. We watched some DVDs borrowed from the library (Picard) followed by an episode of Rocky & Bullwinkle.

It worked pretty well for Ms H. I on the other hand made the mistake of peeking a look at social media on my smart phone - some people were freaking out early, but I thought it likely just unrepresentative early returns. Still, I didn't sleep soundly. I woke up and took another look - things looking worse, but as long as Harris could hold Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, she'd get it. I went into the other room and did some busy work on a laptop and had a small cup of milk & cereal, resisting temptation to medicate or drink myself sleepy. Then Pennsylvania was called for Trump, and I knew it was over. While I tried lying back down a couple of times and letting my mind wander to other things, I couldn't get back to sleep.

Ms H was fortunate to sleep soundly to 9am - as she had no appointments, I was happy to let her sleep as long as she wished.
