Buses and levees
Sep. 4th, 2005 11:42 amNumerous buses in New Orleans unused: http://junkyardblog.net/archives/week_2005_08_28.html
Yep, New Orleans school buses could presumably have been used to get people out. That is, presumimg the buses weren't already flooeded by the time anyone knew there were so many people needing to be evacuated.
Seems preparedness and response was screwed up at all levels of government.
Apparently the 17th street Canal levees are in the process of being plugged. In addition to the sandbags, it's been suggested that the contractors of the recent upgrade and any of the local and state politicians who had funneled money earmarked for flood control and levee improvement into their own pockets could best make themselves usefull as human sandbags to help fill the breech. Who else needs to go in there?
