Subtext of the coverage of Hurricane Ike: In Houston that they're talking about downed signs, sunken yachts, and people without power (as opposed to, say, neighborhoods flattened and people trapped in their attics by flooding) looks to be a sign that things are not nearly as bad as feared there.

Things worse in Galveston and Corpus Christi, though not yet clear just how much worse.

Of course at this point after Katrina, the media hadn't yet checked out anything other than the French Quarter and Canal Street.

Do you feel weird too?

I do because now I'm on the outside looking in. I noted that tv coverage is fairly useless. Since I didn't know what was going on in the world after K, I have no basis for comparison but it's as if they don't really care about updates unless there's a destroyed city and I'm finding out more online than on tv.
I've heard bad things about Galveston and they're still speculating where a lot of people are who stayed behind to ride it out.
And not much at all about CC.
Low point of news coverage today:
TV commentator: " So, exactly what are they going to do with those generators and where will they use them first"?
